Flood Disaster Aid Tops $18 Million (173.57 KB)
January 08, 2008 DR-1734-WA-030 Joint Information Center Media Contact: FEMA/State News Desk: 360-486-5745 SBA News Desk 916-847-2470 FEMA AND STATE WORKING FOR STORM VICTIMS Lacey, Wash. – One month after receiving a federal disaster declaration for the severe storms, floods, landslides and mudslides in early December, federal and state officials announced that more than 2,600 Washington individuals and households have been approved for more than $18.5 million in disaster assistance. “We have sent out more Other Needs Assistance in a shorter time than in any previous Washington disaster,” said Kurt Hardin, state coordinating officer for the 2007 floods. “The applicant numbers and dollars paid for housing assistance for the December 2007 disaster already exceed the totals for the storms and floods of 2006. The 2007 floods easily will rank as the worst flood disaster in Washington since 1996.” “Thanks to the partnership of federal, state and local volunteer agencies, more assistance has been delivered to more people in less time than I have ever seen in any recovery,” said Tom Davies, federal coordinating officer. “Many disaster survivors have received checks within three days after their home inspections.” Individual and Households Assistance to the designated counties is shown below at COB Jan. 6, 2008.
