All levels of government to drill on earthquake response and recovery this summer (477.7 KB)
Wash. State, Central Puget Sound--Simulated large-magnitude earthquakes will hit the Puget Sound area on June 4, 2012. Triggered by these faux quakes, city, county, state, tribal and federal agencies will exercise their response and recovery plans as the 2012 Evergreen Quake Exercise Series kicks off. The first week of June will be a two-day response exercise; the next week, a logistics exercise; and, to wrap up the series, two tabletop exercises on short- and long-term recovery will occur in August. -

LACEY, Wash. - The State of Washington Emergency Management Division (EMD) and the US Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have opened a Joint Information Center (JIC) in Lacey, Washington. JIC staff will provide media information regarding Public Assistance for the 11 counties declared eligible for disaster assistance under the March 5, 2012, Presidential disaster declaration. The declaration provides for federal aid to restore public infrastructure as part of the state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the January 14-23, 2012, severe winter storm, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.
